Wesnoth 1.4 is here…..
Well…. I am really lagging on things these days… Much like a server running microsoft windows…. And therefore, I am again late in reporting release of my most favourite war game ever. The Battle for Wesnoth team has announced the release of the stable version 1.4 of their game, after almost a year of the previous 1.2 stable version.
The version, 1.2 had about 2,100,000 downloads from sourceforge.net (Which I think holds only tarballs. I for one have been using the bundled one with openSUSE and many people prefer binaries from the repositories of their respective distributions…. so actual number might be a lot huge). Having said that, this version along with all it’s improvements, will lead to another new milestone. A better one for sure.
The changes from 1.2 to 1.4 in a broad are,
- Addition of 7 more scenarios.
- Redesigned UI.
- Ability to review the scenarios after winning the game.
- Extended and revised multi player campaigns.
- Changes and re balancing of several units.
- New Animations.
- Better Lobby (Multi Player).
- Map Editor with lots of improvements.
- WML is more capable and powerful.
- 5 New music scores, with all new better sound effects.
- Verity of other improvements.
If you want to know about more about the changes in a little more detail then please visit the official change-log page. If you want a more in depth version of the change-log then you can view it here. The screenshots are also available.
For me, this has been the best news this week. I am off to downloading it right now. I will try my best to post a review as soon as I can (Maybe next week itself). Till then, enjoy the release. Happy Gaming.
