HP -> King of Idiots….
I am aware that there has not been any post on the blog for a very long time. The reason was HP. The DVD drive and the Hard Disk of my laptop failed for the 5th time. Manufacturing Defect, admitted by HP service center, was the reason again. So, the laptop was with the service station for a long time.
I got it back yesterday, and I immediately installed openSUSE on it. While installing though, I found two things, one was that the DVD drive (So called new one) was making a lot of noise. So I took the DVD out and nearly dropped it. The reason was that the temperature of the DVD was well above 50 degrees and when I touched the inner part of the tray to see, it was about 80 degrees. (No kidding, I checked with the thermometer later). So I touched the bottom of the laptop just in case (it was on a tabletop even though it is a laptop) and I couldn’t touch it either. It was so fucking hot. (???!!!)
Another thing which was funny was when I called the service station to tell them about the problem, the guy there answered that the temperature hike is because of the ambient temperature (which is around 35 degrees here inside my home). I mea, what the fuck is that? Does he even know laws of heat transfer? I could understand if the temperature was 3-4 degrees above normal thing, but 80? Thats about 15-20 degrees more than what a human being can handle. How the hell am I supposed to place it on my lap and work? About the noise, they say that they checked the drive and there was no problem. Then what the hell is it that is making all the noise from the tray?
Prior to this, my dad had long conversations with HP people regarding constant failure of the hardware, and they appointed (again, I think this was a lie as well) people to work on the issue. According to them, they sought the problem out. But they are not giving anything in writing so as to what was causing the problem. If they have sought the problem, then where is the answer?
They mentioned it in the passing that this is happening because of overuse of the laptop. I use it 24 hours a day at a stretch of about 3-5 days and then switch it off for 3-4 hours. If that is the reason, then give it in writing I say. But they won’t and they cannot. What the hell does it have to do with 24 hour usage? I can show them many people using laptops 24 hours. A friend of mine said that he had been running his macBookPro for 56 consecutive days (of course it still runs fine, it is Apple you know).
And if I were a professional, then my laptop would have been on around 16 hours a day, but this thing starts to heat up like an oven to cook me dinner in less than an hour. Put a disk in the drive and it heats up in 15 minutes. (And they told me that the drive was specially brought from Japan or some foreign country).
I am almost perfectly sure that they are using refurbished parts. Even now, the so called new Hard Disk and the DVD drive are giving a lot of problems. HP people won’t talk. They don’t have any answers. Their service centers are full of shit-heads.
I am sick and tired of this all now. I am sure that even this Hard Disk and the DVD drive will fail in a month or so. The DVDs are heating up a lot, they will get damaged soon enough. The HP people will do nothing, because they are nut-brains. I want a piece replacement because I think that there is something seriously wrong with this piece. If there is nothing wrong, then I have been asking HP people to give me reasons with explanations so as to why the H/W keeps failing. They cannot give any.
HP sucks… I am never buying an HP product again…
