QEMU, Me and Zenwalk…
Aah…. I said I have exams and I really do, but it is things like these that happen at very inappropriate times… I was on suse channel in freenode. I asked about a way to upgrade from 10.3 to 11 beta 1. I got many replies saying that I should keep 10.3 for now and test beta on a different partition or so. One of the users suggested a VM. I asked if he knew about Xen and VMs. He told me that he was using QEMU.
I was like, WHAT? I knew that QEMU could be used for this stuff. But I though that it can be used to run Live disks under other OS. But then he pointed me to this very good article on installing OS using QEMU as a guest OS under an existing Linux.
So, I decided to go this way. I started downloading openSUSE 11.0 beta 1 KDE CD image and till it would be over (about 6 more hours) I decided to try and install Zenwalk 4.8 using QEMU. Zenwalk is being installed as I type and so far so good, there have been no errors.
I shall write about my experiences with QEMU and Zenwalk soon, but what I am waiting for really is to install openSUSE with KDE 4 on that VM.
Seeya soon O’ faithful reader of my blog…
