The Wordpress plugins I use…

I have been thinking about writing this kind of post for a long time. I would have written long ago, but the truth is that, after coming from blogger, I found wordpress to be very overwhelming. So, I was just waiting to get myself aquinted and then I forgot about it :D

So, here I am back with the list of the plugins I use to enhance my blog.

Administrative :-

  • My Dashboard
  • This is a plugin that transforms you dashboard into a drag and drop ajax based dashboard. Adds better user experience.

  • Wordpress Database Backup
  • This is a gem. It takes backups of the wordpress database and sends you en email of the same. All automated and scheduled.

  • Cforms II
  • Again, a very good plugin. It generates ajax based forms and you can do almost everything with this that you can do with a normal HTML/Ajax form. See the example here.

  • Google Analytics
  • This plugin automatically installs the Google analytics code in the blog.

Images Related :-

  • Next-Gen Gallery
  • In a word, brilliant. Check out my photo gallery to see for yourself what the plugin is capable of. Just brilliant. Has many effects, image resizing, watermark embedding, galleries, albums, etc…

  • Lightbox 2
  • A great effect to display images. Check out the demo here. Click on any image from the album.

  • Add Lightbox
  • The plugins automatically adds the required rel=”lightbox” to the image link every time you create one.

Posts Related :-

  • Akismet Spam Protection
  • Everyone knows about this I think. Blocks almost all spam.

  • WP - Syntax
  • It supports highlighting almost 22 languages. The highlighting is good. Very useful if you want to add code snippets in your blog.

  • WP - Footnotes
  • Ever since I read the works of Jonathan Straud (Bartemaius Series), I wanted to write like this. Integrate footnotes in the posts as shown here1.

  • EXEC - PHP
  • This plugin enables you to add PHP code in your posts.

  • In Series
  • You can add posts in a series and the links to all the posts in the series will be added to each post page. See this for example.

  • Random Redirect
  • Creates a url like this, that redirects you to any random post in the blog. Similar to StumbeUpon.

Monetizing :-

  • Ad Rotator
  • You add the different code snippets and the plugin displays them in order every time the user refreshes the page.

SEO and Publicize :-

  • Google Sitemaps Generator
  • Generates sitemaps in XML format for search engines.

  • Dragon Design Sitemap
  • Generates a sitemap page. You can have a look at one here.

  • Adds the share this link to every post, which has links to all the social bookmarking sites you want. See the example at the end of the post.

RSS :-

  • Feed Burner
  • The feeds from blog (in built) are redirected to the feed burner feeds that you create.

Well, this is it. The extensive list of plugins I am using on this blog as if now. If I add more, then I will remember to let you know.
