The Devil’s Code…
It has been some time since I have read a good book. I think the last good book I read was The Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien. Since that, I haven’t had the luxery to have witnessed a great work of a beautiful mind. Recently I finished reading one more book, The Devil’s Code from the Kidd series written by John Sandford.
I must say I had high expectations from the book after reading the exrept. The book is about a bunch of hackers, some security company and killings…. That was enough to get me started with the book. I eagerly read on as a child would when he first learns to walk…
Alas! That eagerness was fading with each new chapter I read. At first the pace of the book is breathtaking (okay… I might be exaggerating a bit here), 3 killings in first 5 pages… Boy that’s a Start. After some time though, the story kind of strays away from the main subject. You keep thinking in your mind, ‘how is this relevant’? In no time from there, you might throw the book away and stop reading, thinking that the news papers have better content than this shit.
I am afraid, but there is no spectacular thing coming out of this. There is no light at the end of the tunnel… The story keeps floating for a long time and then sinks faster than titanic did. As for me, I thought that the story was finished as if the author had to go to the toilet and could not hold it much longer. It feels incomplete and hurriedly finished thereby compromising on the quality.
Now, a few words about the story (if you are still reading this, that is). A hacker who goes by the screen name of Stanford has been found dead in a security company’s office. He has been murdered for unknown reason. The company officials set the stage and make people believe that he was killed while trying to break in. His sister (Lane) however, does not buy that and starts to track the reasons.
She finds a friend of Sanford, ‘K’ (Kidd). Initially K has no interest in the matter, but soon, there are rumours of a hacker group called ‘Firewall’ that they are attacking NSA and guess what, out poor K’s name is on the list. So, K is dragged in this pretty little mess with Lane and a friend of his, LuEllen.
Together the 3 of them try to find who killed Jack (Sanford) and get tangled in a conspiracy againts the so called group, ‘Firewall’.
Now, you see how catchy it sounds? If you still think it is good, then please read the first few paragraphs again. The story soon strays away from the main point and hangs overhead. Like an over ripped fruit on a tree… You never know when will it fall and if it does, then, are you sure it won’t fall on your head? (Am I being over riddly here? <– meaning, taking too much in riddle like language)..
Read it if you want, as for me, I will not recommend it to anyone unless they have plenty of free time to spend, like I did. Rating 2/5.
