Hello… Hello!! Hello???

HelloHuh… I am really bored beyond any limits this week. First was that Heroes thing. So called movie which sucked more than a class A vacuum cleaner does. I know, people will repeat the sayings, Do not watch Bollywood crap and stuff, but I watched it the day I wrote the article on Heroes and it was, once again, a classic case of peer pressure. :p My mom’s sister had come to Sangli and she wanted some time out and I was the guinea pig. (don’t mind mavashi bai. I am just making controversies and trying to increase some hits to my blog). So, I went to watch hello with her.

Let me make one thing clear first, I have not read the book, One night at the call center, so I cannot compare the movie with the book. I will just write the review. I am, once again, not going to waste the valuable time of mine (which I spend watching House MD these days) trying to avoid the spoilers. Let me start with the experience at the theater. There were, in all, 13 of us  (including the person who checks your tickets) in the theater. I was dreading the worst. Also, having seen Heroes the day before, I was sure I was not going to watch anything worse than that for a LONG LONG time. I was right. Even though there was a heavy draught in the population in the theater (a strange thing in India), the movie was far far better than Heroes.

Please, read the last line again before bashing me. It was far better than Heroes but it is not what you may call a good movie. I am tired (a lot) so I am not going to go into details. I will sum up the movie, the extras Salman and Katrina are in the movie because they do not have a better work to do. Singers (all of them) suck. All songs are very bad. Salman still goes naked (half :p) on screen. Sharman Joshi looks promising (way way better than in Style). All 3 babes are hot (especially Gul Panag)(My previous theory about spellings of names remains the same). Story is weak and it becomes completely outrageous in the ending scenes.

The end is, they, the call center people, call people in US, telling them that they have a virus in their computer and that they should keep calling the call center people to make sure they are safe. I mean, WTF?? If anyone tries that prank (so called method to increase the revenue and call volume, just to save jobs) then they will be sued in court, fined heavily and have their license cancelled. Do they think all the people who watch the movie are stupid? If anything like that gets pulled, then people from all the Internet security people will jump to be first, find out that it is a prank. They will be sued as I said. It is ridiculous.

Second thing, which may not be the opinion of others is Sharman Joshi and Gul Panag. She leaves him for some NRI guy to get married with cause Sharman is not rich and all. After 2 years (or more, it is not so clear in the movie) of companionship, she leaves him just like that. Then, 4 months after that, she comes back to Sharman and says sorry and all. I was delighted to see him say no to her and walk away. Which is the right thing to do. However, like in all stupid hindi movies, he thinks he made a mistake, chases her car on Sohail Khan’s bike and proposes to her and all… I mean, again, WTF. This is the practical approach which people lack. It is not, aao jaao ghar tumhara thing. You cannot behave like that and expect to be forgiven (watch the marathi drama, Olakh Na Palakh, it handles this situation very well) just like that… So, I do not agree with this thing, at all… people might. So, I will leave it to readers to comment on this issue and start some discussion. As for the rating, it is -C.

Now I disagree with that…. all of this… Heroes was bullcrap…but,
Hello was good.. timepass…
I think somebodu must’ve put something in your drink before you watched movie :p Everything in movie is crystal clear.

“After 2 years of companionship, she leaves him just like that. Then, 4 months after that, she comes back to Sharman and says sorry and all.”
Its nothing like that… Movie clearly shows that she leaves Sharman cause Sharman is not serious about his career. Now even in real life a sensible girl would do that same.

” the call center people, call people in US, telling them that they have a virus in their computer and that they should keep calling the call center people”
Well, movie is based on novel of about 3 years ago (2005) and 3 years ago people were not aware of computers as much as they are now! And in book it was not a virus, it was a bug in MS office which exist actually and they name that bug as virus. Movie just tried to make things simpler for non-tech users…

You should’ve read novel 1st. Its good to see what you read on silver screen… :)

BTW! Stop watching movies and start studying :p

Ouch. I have said it at the start, I have not read the novel and this review is based only on the movie and not the book and making that bug a virus is… plain stupid.

Second thing, again, she thinks he is not serious. That does not mean he was not serious (in the movie again). Women are so hard to understand…

That is all. You maybe right, but I have not read the book. As for watching crap, well, I had to go… peer pressure…

well aditya, its true that the film was not extra ordinarily good, but just chk who is acting, then write and the fact that you havent read the book is not valid here because u cant judge the movie based only on what you know… i think it was a really good effort…

mitali October 30th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

i saw Kidnap, on the other hand,,,which was better, basically i felt it was more like an art film that moves in 1 direction thru’out…the actors have performed up to my expectations, but there were some mistakes-couple of them,,,so u might wanna try that one…

@ Mitali. Comment 1

What do you mean by who is acting? If they are not good actors then why cast them? And just because they are not well renowned, does not mean I should say ‘I liked it’ even if I did not. That is plain stupid.

Second thing, the point where I did not read the book is not valid and I cannot write a review based on what I know? What the hell is this? If I do not know something, how can I write a review of that? It is NOT expected that I should read the book for the movie? Why make the movie then? Is it to give visual aid for the book?

Please explain what you meant by this, so I will be able to reply better.

As for kidnap, I have not seen the movie, and hence, cannot comment.

i simply mean to say some movies are made just for the sake of it, bcos some people
(the writers/producers) have that “wish” of making the book into a movie.

in the same way tht some books like ‘One night…’ were written just for giving the writer’s fans an insight into youngsters in delhi, who have not defined their own future(like they’ve shown here),and also ‘the call center’ which was in vogue during the time that the book was written….

thts it, its our personal wish whether or not we take it personally tht the flick sucked or rocked…and nobody will say it was a brilliant movie

The fantasy element, was put in, because the writer realized,(in my opinion), that the book sucked, like a lecture.

Now i dunno y they made this movie, but these wonderful people in the hindi film industry are exhausted of ideas that they dont plan properly and make remakes or just ask sb to give their story…and u know now what happens when u go to watch them [because u have nothing to do...]

Off the topic-
***if u read the book, it has some ’scenes’ that are more engaging than the movie(isha’s scene, the phone tapping scene, etc.)…young people would relate to them 3 yrs back. But we know everything now so thumbs down.secondly the characters were not defined in the small time of the movie as they were in the book-story.

***i saw this tamil movie called Dashavtar, kamal hassan, its funny and stretched, yet interesting links throughout…see it/Google it if u can..

yeah i agree that the movie was a very poor adaptation of the novel. but one suggestion man- stop watching these sort of movies or ask people about them before u decide to watch or at least stop writing these ‘oh this bollywood movie sux too’ reviews ;)
