Of Connection Issues and Test Scores

Finally, I received official scores from ETS. Scored 110/120 in TOEFL iBT and 1490/1600 in GRE with 800/800 in Quant, 690/800 in Verbal and 5/6 in analytical writing. Now the application process is all that remains and hopefully it will be over soon.

In other news, thank to BSNL, I have not been able to update this blog or noob2geek for a LONG time. Finally, after countless complaints, their people came and replaced the entire cable from the pole to my house today and I have not had a problem since then.

In another news, my laptop’s HDD is fried again. I bought a new 250GB HDD and am yet to install it. Currently online from an isolated partition on the old HDD that still throbs. Until next time…

Miserable State of Roads

My cousin just got married about a week ago and I had gone to Pune from Sangli for the occasion. People had given us some stern warnings about the state of roads. Everyone said they were very bad and driving at speeds in excess of 80kmph was close to impossible at times.

In reality, it turned out to be worse than that. The current state of the road from Sangli to Peth is the worst ever as far as I can remember. The road has lot of bumps and pits. It’s not in a level the car keeps careening and it’s nauseating. The NH4 portion is supposed to be the better one. It’s national highway for god’s sake, but no. That road is even worse.

The toll booths on the NH4 are managed by pigs dressed in human outfits and are governed by donkeys in same suits. Those idiots had screwed up so bad, that we escaped an accident by an hairline. [Read more →]

Bored of the Same Music? Read On

Last.fm Bored of the Same Music? Read On

Last.fm

Have you ever been so bored of listening to the same music again and again that you planned to secretly start a band and compose your own music and launch an album? Okay, that’s a little extreme I agree, but listening to the same music gets boring more often than not for me. Except in case of classics of course.

This was of course before the time I created an account on Last.fm. Last.fm is a UK based Internet radio system. We are not interested in the radio part for this article. Here, I will review the Audioscrobbler of Last.fm. It’s a service which resides on your system and caches the tracks you listen to (that is of course if you tag and organize your music, which I do). When you are connected to the Internet, the program transfers the stats to your Last.fm account. Then, based on the tracks you listen a lot and don’t listen much (or never listen to), your radio listening habits and stats gathered from your portable devices (like the iPhone), the service recommends new music for you. It also builds a relationship between users giving an information about the similar artists the users like and offers many other social networking features. [Read more →]
