It only has references to Dragons which until recently roamed the 7 kingdoms and are dead now. Or, the people were killed by the 'others' which are some sort of magical creatures, but are yet to appear in the book but in tales of the old. I don't know if the dragons hold importance in the series later, but if they don't, this book would have passed as a normal fictional history book. That is the point.
